Tubing Trip to Cherokee, NC a Hit!

21 AUG 04

To say the tubing trip went OK would be an understatement! Everyone had a great time and the boys are already talking about going back again next year. It is true, that while tubing, some received some bumps and bruises, and the water was a little cold.... OK it was downright sub-zero, but it was fun!

Near the end of the trip down the Raven Fork River, we crawled up the bank to take a short hike to Mingo Falls. Some estimated the falls to be almost 200 feet tall! We even had a few wild blackberries for a snack. Returning from the falls back to the river, we somehow found the fortitude to hop back into that bone chilling water and worked our way back down to the KOA campground.

The boys would have enjoyed the hot tub immediately following this 3 hour chilling adventure, but had more important matters to tend to - like making supper before dark. The adults however did thoroughly enjoy the hot tub to soothe their sore muscles. After supper the boys did return to enjoy the pool and arcade.

After a good nights sleep we had breakfast, vespers service and packed it all up for a trip to Clingman's Dome - the Highest Point in Tennessee (Go Vols!) This short but very steep hike took us to an awesome view of the Smokies. Mr. Camp and several others even noticed bear scat on the path leading up to the dome! Scat or droppings is evidence of an animals diet, AKA poop! Good thing for us the bear was not present at the time we went by! Fortunately none of the scouts did us the honor of stepping in the scat! That would have made for a long trip back to Atlanta!

What a great trip!
