BSA Summer Camp 2005
Summer Camp 2005
June 26-July 2, 2005
We went down to Camp Thunder for Summer Camp again this year.
We arrived on Sunday and set up camp in site 10 (Cherokee). After
we got out personal gear unloaded and in our tent, we headed
for the lake to do our swim tests. When we all finished with
that, our guide took us on a tour of the camp. We got back in
time to get dressed for dinner and later on there was an opening
camp fire where we all met the staff.
Monday morning we found out where our Merit Badge classes were
and headed off to class. This year we got to do the Merit Badges
of our choice. Will, Jeris, Grant, Jared, Lance and Josh entered
the volleyball tournament but lost the first game. They only
lost by 2 points and the other team was much older. Some of the
guys went to the Hunter Safety course that was held from 7:00
p.m. until about 10:00 for 2 or 3 nights. Andrew, Jared, Lance,
Jeris, Grant, Will and Trent did do the Mile Swim. Some of us
just spent free time hanging out in the creek, or fishing or
just hanging around. We had card games going every night in the
pavilion. We also had a Troop Meeting to talk about any special
activities or requirements we had going on for the next day.
We probably had about 15 hammocks in the camp. Some of us slept
in our hammocks every night. Luckily the weather was good.
The camp food was good (as good as school food). The best food
was on Friday night. Mr. Wes brought down steaks and some of
the parents cooked them for the other parents and Phillip cooked
the one’s for the Scouts. We had steak, corn, potatoes,
and cobbler. It was all delicious! Saturday morning we packed
up our gear, loaded the trailer and headed out. On the way home
we stopped at Golden Corral and ate lunch.
