Climbing & Rappelling
September 9-11, 2005
Camp Thunder and Gerald I. Lawhorn Canoe Base
We went down to Camp Thunder on Friday night and set up in the
cabins in
campsite #2 Kiowa. This was the first time we got to stay in
cabins at Camp
Thunder. Saturday we just had a free day. We went fishing, played
football
and hang out. Sunday morning we packed up and went over to Carolina
Tower at
the Canoe Base where we got our harnesses and helmets on. Then
the
instructors talked to us about the rules. We started climbing
and everyone
had to climb 3 times and belay 3 times. Then the adults got to
climb some.
When we finished there, we ate lunch and then had to walk about
1 1/2 or 2
miles down the road along the Flint River to Dripping Rock. This
was a
40-foot cliff. We had to rappel 3 times and belay 3 times there
also. Some
of the guys climbed the cliff also. We all earned our Climbing
Merit Badge.
The guys that went were Hunter, Lance, Ben, Hector, Josh, Glenn,
Austin,
Grant, Andrew, Mason, Roy and Daniel.
